The Purpose of This Discussion
I get asked this question a lot do a video Tom talking about self-defense coverage options so here it is this video is not intended to be an exhaustive analysis comparing where all the options are are today although I certainly do talk about some of that instead I want to make sure that you down the lens know how to become educated and what really counts and what is actually just noise
Experience and Perspective
first I’m an attorney I’m a former State prosecutor who has represented people in self-defense firearm cases my firm has almost 30 attorneys most of whom are criminal defense attorneys and we have at any point in time between about 4 to maybe 15 or so defensive gun use cases we have spoken to I don’t even know a lot of folks or their family members who’ve been involved in defense of gun use cases over the years from not only Wisconsin but as well as around the country
The Reality of Defensive Gun Use
I also want to remind you something that’s incredibly important the vast majority upwards of 90% or more of defensive gun use cases simply involve a mere display of the firearm without ever having to shoot it to end the engagement recall that Center for dis control study that said that there are more than 500,000 to even millions of defensive gun use cases in the United States every single year they don’t even reach the police a lot of the times and they rarely make the news odds are in my experience your case won’t make the news either your incident will likely not involve you ever pulling the trigger and for your sake I hope it doesn’t now we’re going to circle back around to this later but it’s important that I just get that out there now for you to put in the back of your mind
The Four Most Important Aspects of Coverage
here’s what I think are the four most important aspects to coverage yes of course there are others but these are going to be the ones that have the largest bearing on the outcome of your case let’s look at them one by one
1. Who Decides If You Are Covered
